Rainbow Division

Nickname for the 1st US Infantry Division in World War I, so-called because it had been deliberately assembled from troops from all the 48 states of the union, so that each state would be represented in the first US division to reach France.

95 Hardcover D570 Indianapolis native Kniptash (1897-1987) served as radio operator with the Headquarters Company of the 150th Field Artillery of the 42nd Infantry Division, the famed Rainbow Division.
Jarrett began his military career as a second lieutenant in August 1917, assigned to the 166th Infantry's 42nd Rainbow Division.
Army Reserve, Goff served as a Captain in the Military Police Corps and was on the command staff of the Rainbow Division of the New York National Guard during the violent riots that followed the New York City blackout in the summer of 1977.
