Rainey, Henry Thomas

Rainey, Henry Thomas (1860–1934)

US representative. A Democrat in the US House of Representatives 1903–21, he spent most of his life in Congress, with one break as a farmer after his only election loss. Returning to the House in 1923, he became majority leader, then Speaker of the House 1933–34.

He was born in Carrollton, Illinois. A lawyer, he was master in chancery for Greene County, Illinois 1887–95.
