Rainier, Priaulx (1903–1986)

South African composer. She studied at Cape Town and after 1920, at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and lastly with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. In 1942, she was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Orchestral

ballet suite for orchestra (1950), Sinfonia da camera for strings (1947); Incantation for clarinet and orchestra; cello concerto (1964); Aequora Lunae for orchestra (1967); Ploërmel for winds and percussion (1973); violin concerto (1977), concertante for oboe, clarinet, and orchestra (1981).

Chamber

string quartet (1939), viola and piano sonata, piano works, songs.
