Rajkumar (1929–2006)

Indian actor, singer, and producer who starred in more than 200 films produced by the Indian film company Kannada. His title ‘the celebrity of celebrities’ reflects his status as film icon in India. His films range from historical epics to modern thrillers, and his songs include both devotionals and popular music.

In 2000 he was held hostage for three months by Veerappan, one of India's most notorious bandits, which incited riots and an outpouring of public grief for the former actor. He was released unharmed.
