Rampton, Calvin Lewellyn

Rampton, Calvin Lewellyn (1913–2007)

US state governor. As Democratic governor of Utah 1965–77, he promoted business and tourism, reduced state debt, and enforced the Fair Employment Practice Act. He was the first governor of Utah to serve three terms.

He was born in Bountiful, Utah, and was a Bronze Star veteran of World War II. After receiving his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Utah, he practised law in Salt Lake City 1946–64, serving as assistant attorney general 1946–48.
