Randová, Eva (1936– )

Czech mezzo-soprano. She made her debut at Ostrava in 1962 and joined the National Theatre, Prague, in 1968. She appeared in Stuttgart from 1971, as Amneris, Eboli, Santuzza, and Azucena. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1977, as Ortrud and returned for Marina and Venus. From 1973 she appeared at Bayreuth as Kundry and Fricka in the Chéreau Ring. She made her debut at Salzburg in 1975, as Eboli under Karajan and at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1981, as Fricka. Janáček's Kostelnička (Jenůfa) is one of her most notable roles (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 1986). She returned to London in 1994, as Kabanicha in Káta Kabanová and in 1995 for Hindemith's Sancta Susanna at the Barbican Hall.
