Rapsodie espagnole

Orchestral work by Maurice Ravel in a Spanish manner as cultivated by a typically French composer with a strong taste for and leanings towards Spanish music. Composed in 1907, it was first performed at Paris on 15 March 1908.

Perhaps the most attractive performance in the concert was Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole, a mysterious thoughtful piece, with parts of the piece reminiscent of La Valse, by the same composer.
Its opposite number came with Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'une faune, the dreamy mythic landscape giving way to Ravel's vividly coloured Rapsodie Espagnole, an exhilarating finale for an endlessly exciting orchestra.
30pm for performances of Ravel's exotic Rapsodie espagnole, followed by Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
