Raritan

River in central New Jersey, USA; length 56 km/35 mi. It is formed to the west of Raritan by the convergence of the North and South branches, and flows between Perth Amboy and South Amboy into Raritan Bay and out into the Atlantic Ocean.

It was formerly an important freight route, carrying coal, refined metals, brick, sand, and clay products.
