Raskin, Judith

Raskin, Judith (1928–1984)

US soprano. She studied in New York and in 1956 created the title role in Douglas Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe (Central City, CO). She appeared with NBC TV in operas by Poulenc and Mozart and in 1959 sang Despina at the New York City Opera. In 1962 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, as Susanna. In 1963 she sang Pamina at Glyndebourne and in the same year appeared in the first performance of Menotti's The Labyrinth. Well known as a recitalist, she was heard in music by Monteverdi, Rameau, Purcell, and Pergolesi.
