Rather, Dan (Irvin) (1931– )

US television anchor. One of the first correspondents on 60 Minutes 1975–81, he was a tenacious interviewer, becoming anchor for CBS Evening News in 1981 and for 48 Hours in 1988. He retired as CBS news anchor in 2005.

He was born in Wharton, Texas. After reporting for local television in Houston, he joined CBS's Dallas bureau in 1962, and served as CBS White House correspondent 1964–65 and 1966–74, covering the Watergate scandal with special reports like The White House Tapes: The President's Decision.
