Blairgowrie and Rattray

Town and joint burgh in Perth and Kinross unitary authority, Scotland, situated on both sides of the River Ericht, 32 km/20 mi northeast of Perth; population (2001) 8,000. The traditional manufacture of textiles (rayon, jute, and flax) remains its principal industry. Other industries include light engineering, raspberry and soft fruit production, and tourism, with the town popular for skiing and as a summer resort.

Among its tourist attractions is Keithbank Mill, a former jute and flax mill, now converted into a workshop and museum. The River Ericht is known for its salmon fishing. The Meikleour Hedge, five miles south of the town, is the tallest hedge in the world. Planted in 1746, it is now 600 m/1969 ft long and 30 m/98 ft high.
