Rautio, Nina (1957– )

Russian soprano. She studied in Leningrad and sang at the State Theatre there 1981–87. From 1987 she worked with the Bolshoi, Moscow, appearing with the company at Edinburgh and the Metropolitan Opera House, New York (1991), as Tatiana and as Oksana in Christmas Eve by Rimsky-Korsakov. She sang Manon Lescaut and Elisabeth de Valois at La Scala, Milan in 1992, Aïda and Amelia Boccanegra at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London 1994–95. Other roles include Lisa in The Queen of Spades (Opéra Bastille); Desdemona (Orange Festival); the Forza Leonora (Berlin Staatsoper); and Mathilde in Guillaume Tell.
