Ravitch, Diane (1938– )

US educator and historian. She helped define the neoconservative agenda for school reform in such works as The Troubled Crusade 1983, The Schools We Deserve 1985, and What Do Our Seventeen-Year-Olds Know? (coauthored) 1987.

She was born in Houston, Texas. She was an educational historian at Teachers College, Columbia, in 1975, and was appointed Assistant Secretary of Education in 1991.
