Rawlinson, Henry Creswicke (1810–1895)

English orientalist and political agent in Baghdad in the Ottoman Empire from 1844. He deciphered the Babylonian cuneiform and Old Persian scripts of Darius I's trilingual inscription at Behistun, Persia, continued the excavation work of A H Layard, and published a History of Assyria 1852. KCB 1856, baronet 1891.
