Rawlinson, Henry Seymour (1864-1925)

British soldier in World War I. Commanding the 4th Army, he was responsible for the main attack on the Somme 1916 and played a decisive part in stemming the German Spring Offensive and then the Allied offensive which ended the war. Baronet 1895, Baron 1819.

In early 1918 he became British representative at the Council of Versailles but was hastily recalled to the front in March.
