Raymond

Town and co-administrative headquarters, with Jackson, of Hinds County, west-central Mississippi; population (1990) 2,300. It is located 21 km/13 mi west-southwest of Jackson city centre. It is an agricultural trade centre, and a residential suburb of Jackson. Raymond is home to Hinds Community College (1917).

During the 1863 Vicksburg Campaign, after Confederate defeats at Port Gibson and Grand Gulf, it was the scene of another victory for Ulysses S Grant's army (12 May).
