Redondo Beach

City in Los Angeles County, southwest California; population (1990) 60,200. It is located 24 km/15 mi south-southwest of Los Angeles city centre and to the west of Torrance, on Santa Monica Bay (the Pacific Ocean). It boomed in the 1900s as a resort, and is today an affluent community with many elegant homes. Its limited industry includes aerospace research and development. King Harbor is a leading private marina. The city's wide, crescent-shaped beach attracts tourists and surfers; fishing and boat tours are also important to the local economy.
