electrode

Any terminal by which an electric current passes in or out of a conducting substance; for example, the anode or cathode in an electrolytic cell. The anode is the positive electrode and the cathode is the negative electrode.

The terminals that emit and collect the flow of electrons in thermionic valves (electron tubes) are also called electrodes: for example, cathodes, plates (anodes), and grids.

A high density graphite electrode and a saturated calomel electrode (SCE) were used as the counter electrode and the reference electrode, respectively.
Preparation of Electrochromic Layers (PTh and PEDOT) A three-electrode cell containing ITO-coated glass slide as the working electrode, a platinum foil as the counter electrode, and a silver wire as the reference electrode were used for electrodeposition of PTh and PEDOT by potentiostatic methods.
Electrochemical measurements were conducted with the use of a PI-50-1 potentiostat, a PR-8 programmer, and a standard three-electrode cell equipped with a saturated Ag/AgCl reference electrode and a Pt counter electrode.
