refractive index

Measure of the refraction of a ray of light as it passes from one transparent medium to another. If the angle of incidence is i and the angle of refraction is r, the ratio of the two refractive indices is given by n1/n2 = sin i/sin r. It is also equal to the speed of light in the first medium divided by the speed of light in the second, and it varies with the wavelength of the light.
