Regino of Prüm (c. 842-915)

German Benedictine monk and music historian, canonist, and theorist. He was abbot of Prüm 892-99. He is believed to have been the first to arrange antiphons and responsories according to their mode in a tonarius (a liturgical book containing antiphones and responsories of the Office and the Mass, arranged according to the eight psalm tones of the Gregorian chant). The first comprehensive tonary surviving after the Metz tonary of 870, the Octo toni de musicae artis is one of the most comprehensive plainchant sources in existence.
