Reichstein, Tadeus

Reichstein, Tadeus (1897-1996)

Swiss biochemist who was awarded a Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1950 for work on the structure and biological effects of hormones of the adrenal cortex. By 1946 Reichstein had identified a large number of steroids secreted by the adrenal cortex, some of which would later be used in the treatment of Addison's disease. Reichstein shared the prize with Edward Kendall and Philip Hench.
