Reina Idiaquez, Carlos Roberto (1926-2003)

Honduran centre-right politician, president 1994-98. He oversaw an upturn in the economy, although the unemployment rate remained high.

A member of the centre-right Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH), he served in the Honduras National Assembly, the International Court of Justice, and as ambassador to the UK and France, before winning the November 1993 presidential election. He was succeeded as president in January 1998 by Carlos Roberto Flores Facusse, also of the PLH.

Trained in law at the National University of Honduras, Cambridge University, UK, and the Sorbonne in Paris, France, Reina taught as a law professor at the University of Honduras, developing an expertise in international law.
