Reinecke, Carl (Heinrich Carsten) (1824-1910)

German pianist, composer, and conductor. He was conductor of the Gewandhaus concerts and professor of composition at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1860.

He settled in Leipzig in 1843. He was pianist to the Danish court 1846-48, and visited Copenhagen several times.

Works

Choral

fairy-tale cantatas for female voices Schneewittchen, Dornröschen, Aschenbrödel, and others.

Orchestral and instrumental

three symphonies 1870-95), overtures Dame Kobold (Calderón's Dama duende), Aladdin, Friedensfeier, Zenobia and other orchestral works; four piano concertos (1879-1900), concertos for violin, for cello, for flute, and for harp.

Chamber and vocal

five string quartets, wind octet, seven piano trios and other chamber music; three piano sonatas and many pieces, including sonatinas; songs.
