Reining, Maria (1903-1991)

Austrian soprano. She sang at the Vienna Staatsoper in the early 1930s as a soubrette and returned in 1937 as a dramatic soprano, singing there until 1956. In 1937 she also sang Eva at Salzburg, under Toscanini, and returned as Arabella and the Marschallin; she repeated the latter role at the New York City Opera in 1949. She was professor of singing at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, from 1962.
