Reinkens, Joseph Hubert (1821-1896)

First Old Catholic bishop. In 1870 he joined Ignaz von Döllinger in the Old Catholic movement and in opposition to the doctrine of papal infallibility. After being excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church, he was consecrated in 1873 as bishop of the Old Catholics in Germany. Reinkens was born in Burtscheid, near Aachen, Germany.
