Reinthaler, Karl (Martin) (1822–1896)

German composer and conductor. He became cathedral organist and choral conductor at Bremen in 1858. He conducted the first performance of Brahms's German Requiem, in 1868.

After some early music training he went to Berlin to study theology, but turned to music, studying under A B Marx. With a grant from Frederick William IV he then studied further in Paris and Italy; in 1825 he joined the staff of the Cologne Conservatory.
