Rejlander, Oscar Gustave (1813–1875)

Swedish painter and portrait photographer. He was a leading exponent of composite photography, building up complex images printed from many negatives. His most famous photograph was an allegorical composition Two Ways of Life, printed in 1857 on two sheets of photographic paper from several background negatives and 30 negatives of figures. A copy was bought by Queen Victoria. Rejlander settled in England in 1853.
