Remedios, Alberto (1935- )

English tenor. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London and appeared at Sadler's Wells, London from 1957. His first major role was Alfredo, in 1960. In 1965 he made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden debut, as Dmitri. Other roles have been Mark, Bacchus, and Siegfried, a role he sang in the English National Opera Ring of 1973. Other Wagner roles have been Lohengrin, Walther, and Siegmund; he has also sung Otello and Berlioz's Faust and Aeneas. He made his US debut at San Francisco in 1973 and his house debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, in 1976, as Bacchus. In 1991 he sang the Second Armed Man in Die Zauberflöte at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London and in 1992 Svetopluk Cech in Janáček's The Excursions of Mr Brouček for the English National Opera ensemble.
