Remusat, Charles François Marie, Comte de Remusat (1797-1875)

French statesman and man of letters. From 1830-48 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies, and in 1840 minister of the interior. After the coup d'état in 1848 he was exiled, but returned to Paris in 1871, and was minister of foreign affairs (1871-73). During his absences from public life he devoted himself to literary and philosophical studies. Amongst his works are Essais de philosophie/Philosophical Essays (1842) and Histoire de la philosophie en Angleterre depuis Bacon jusqu'a Locke/A History of English Philosophy from Bacon to Locke (1875).

Remusat was born in Paris, France. His letters were published (1884-86), as were his memoirs in five volumes (1958-62).
