Rendall, David (1948– )

English tenor. After study at the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Salzburg Mozarteum he sang Ferrando with Glyndebourne Touring Opera in 1975 and at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1976. He appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London from 1975, in Der Rosenkavalier and as Matteo, Almaviva (Rossini), Rodolfo, Rodrigo (La donna del lago, and the Duke of Mantua. He sang with the English National Opera ensemble from 1976, as Leicester in Maria Stuarda, Alfredo, Tamino, Pinkerton, and Cavaradossi. In 1978 he made his New York City and San Francisco debuts, as Rodolfo and Don Ottavio, and from 1980 appeared with the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, as Ernesto, Belmonte, Idomeneo, and Lensky. He created Don Antonio in the stage premiere of Gerhard's The Duenna (Madrid, 1992).
