Renn, Ludwig (1889-1979)

German writer. He caused a sensation with his first novel, Krieg/War 1928, a harsh and realistic treatment of World War I. His other novels include Nachkrieg/After War 1930 and Russland Fahrten/Travels in Russia 1932.

Renn became a communist in the late 1920s; he also fought in the Spanish Civil War and lived in Mexico, returning to East Germany 1947. His early autobiography Adel im Untergang/Aristocracy in Decay was published 1946.
