Rennert, Wolfgang (1922- )

German conductor. He studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum 1940-47 and made his debut at Dusseldorf in 1948 with Un ballo in maschera. He conducted in Dusseldorf until 1950, then at the Frankfurt Opera 1953-67 and the Theater am Gärtnerplatz, Munich 1967-72 and was music director of the Mannheim Opera 1980-85. He has led Die Zauberflöte in Dallas, Die Walküre at the Staatsoper Berlin (1990), and Arabella at the Semperoper Dresden (1992). In 1993 he conducted Tannhäuser at the National Theatre, Lisbon.
