repetition

In poetry, the recurrence of any sound, pattern, phrase, image, or syntactic structure. Rhyme is a form of repetition that repeats the same sounds at certain key moments in a poem, as are the additional sound devices of alliteration and assonance. The use of any repeated sounds in poetry is central to the production of a poem's sonic texture or patterns. Syntactic repetitions also contribute to a poem's rhythm.
