Resaca

Small town in Gordon County, northwest Georgia; population (1990) 400. It is located 105 km/65 mi northwest of Atlanta. Originally called Dublin by Irish workers building the Chattanooga–Atlanta railway, it was renamed by veterans of the 1846 Mexican War battle of Resaca de la Palma, Texas. A three-day battle for this strategic junction in May 1864 was part of Gen William Tecumseh Sherman's advance on Atlanta.
