Resor, Stanley

Resor, Stanley (Burnet) (1879–1962)

US advertising executive. He joined the J Walter Thompson advertising agency in 1908. Soon buying out its founder, as president and chairman 1916–61 he built it into the world's largest advertising agency, renowned for its use of scientific market research and insistence on sales results.

He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1917 he married Helen Lansdowne Resor (c. 1887–1964), a copywriter and pioneer of testimonial advertising who was a vice-president and director of J Walter Thompson for more than 40 years.
