Reuters

London-based international news agency. It is the world's largest news agency, providing general, political, economic, and sports news to media organizations, financial institutions, and consumers. It has several thousand journalists and photographers based in more than 100 countries.

Using satellite and computer technology, Reuters supplies the latest financial data to banks, brokers, and corporations in 130 countries, a service providing more than 90% of its revenue.

The agency was founded in 1851 by Paul Julius Reuter. It became a private trust in 1916 and was taken over by the Newspaper Proprietors' Association 1926–41. Reuters became a public company in 1984.
