Revelle, Roger (Randall Dougan) (1909-1991)

US oceanographer and sociologist. His tectonic studies of the Pacific Ocean led to major contributions to the theory of seafloor spreading. He was a professor of population policy at Harvard 1964-76, and professor of science and public policy at the University of California, San Diego 1976-91. He served on US and international committees on world population and the environment.
