Revisor, Der

Opera in five acts by Werner Egk (libretto by composer after Gogol's story The Government Inspector). It was first produced at Schwetzingen on 9 May 1957. In the story, the minor civil servant Chlestakov is mistaken for a government inspector by corrupt town officials and takes advantage of the situation to woo the mayor's daughter.
