Rhamnaceae

The buckthorn family, a family of 875 species of shrubs and trees in 53 genera. Many species have small whitish flowers with sepals, petals, and stamens in fours or fives. Fruits are often berrylike, occasionally edible, for example the jujube. Some genera have thorny stems and reduced leaves, for example Colletia.
