Rheingold, Das

Opera by Richard Wagner, the first of the cycle of music dramas Ring des Nibelungen.

In the story, the dwarf Alberich steals the magic Rheingold from the Rhinemaidens and forges an all-powerful ring. Wotan, chief of the gods, steals Alberich's hoard, including the ring, in order to pay the giants Fasolt and Fafner for building the gods' palace Valhalla.
