Rhinebeck

Town in Dutchess County, southeast New York; population (1990) 7,600. It is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River, 6 km/4 mi east of Kingston. An affluent exurb and summer resort community, it is home to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, and many galleries. The Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge is 6 km/4 mi to the north. Rhinebeck was settled by the Dutch in the late 17th century and by German Palatines after 1712.
