Rhodes, Zandra Lindsey

    0.03 sec.

Rhodes, Zandra Lindsey (1940– )

English fashion designer. She is known for the extravagant fantasy and luxury of her dress creations. She founded her own fashion house in 1968.

After studying at the Royal College of Art, Rhodes began designing and printing highly individual textiles. Her fabrics – chiffon, silk, and tulle – are frequently handprinted with squiggles, zigzags, and other patterns. Her evening dresses are often characterized by their uneven handkerchief hems. She designs wedding and evening dresses embroidered in India, and saris for the top end of the Indian fashion market.

From 1976 she licensed her name in the UK and abroad, expanding into textile design, furnishing fabrics, and cosmetics. In 1984 she won an Emmy award for her costumes for the televised production of Romeo and Juliet on Ice. She won the British Fashion Council's Hall of Fame Award in 1995 and founded London's Fashion and Textile Museum in 2003.
