Rodez

Administrative centre of the département of Aveyron in the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France, situated at the confluence of the Auterne and Aveyron rivers, 125 km/78 mi northeast of Toulouse; population (1990) 40,000. It contains the remains of Segodunum, a Roman town, and has a 13th–16th-century Gothic cathedral. It is a tourist centre and manufactures textiles.
