Ricciarelli, Katia (1946- )

Italian soprano. She studied in Venice and made her debut there in 1969, as Mimi. At her US debut in Chicago in 1972 she sang Lucrezia in I due Foscari. At the Netropolitan Opera House, New York she has sung Mimi (1975) and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Aïda, Giulietta, and Elisabeth de Valois. Other roles include Lucrezia Borgia; Imogene; Giovanna d'Arcompany; Ninetta in La gazza ladra (Pesaro, 1988); and Amenaide in Tancredi (Geneva, 1990). She sang Desdemona in Zeffirelli's 1986 film version of Otello.
