Rice, James (1843–1882)

English writer. He collaborated with Walter Besant on a series of novels, beginning with the highly successful Ready-Money Mortiboy 1872. He was the sole author of A History of the British Turf 1879.

Rice was born in Northampton and studied at Cambridge. He trained as a barrister but preferred literature and edited the periodical Once a Week 1868–72.
