Richards, A(lfred) N(ewton) (1876-1966)

US pharmacologist. In World War II he chaired the Committee on Medical Research, which made penicillin available for widespread use.

He was born in Stamford, New York. He taught at the universities of Columbia 1904-08, Northwestern 1908-10, and Pennsylvania 1910-46.
