Richardson| City in Dallas and Collin counties, northeast Texas; population (1990) 74,800. It adjoins northeast Dallas. Settled in the 1870s when the railway came through the area, it remained a small agricultural town until the mid 1950s, when Dallas suburbanization boomed. Though mostly residential, it has some light industry including production of radios and telecommunications, computer, and other electronic goods. The University of Texas at Dallas (1961) and Richland College (1972) are in the city. |
