Richland County| County in north-central Ohio; area 1,287 sq km/497 sq mi; population (1990) 126,100. It is intersected by forks of the Mahoning River. Its administrative headquarters and largest city is Mansfield. The economy is supported primarily by agriculture, including dairy, fruit, grain, livestock, and potato farming, as well as greenhouses. There is manufacturing at Mansfield, Plymouth, and Shelby. Natural resources include sand and gravel. |
Richland County| County in west-central South Carolina; area 1,974 sq km/762 sq mi; population (1990) 285,700. It is situated in the Sandhills, and is bounded by the Congaree River to the southwest and the Wateree River to the east. Its administrative headquarters and the state capital is Columbia; the city is also its industrial and commercial hub and primary employer. Many of the city's residential suburbs and the large Fort Jackson military reservation are here. The county also produces cotton, tobacco, peaches, corn, dairy products, and livestock. The Congaree Swamp National Monument is in the south of the county. |
