Richter, Gisela

Richter, Gisela (Marie Augusta) (1882–1972)

English-born US art historian. She was an influential curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City 1906–48. Her publications include Roman Portraits 1948, Archaic Greek Art 1949, Three Critical Periods in Greek Sculpture 1951, and A Handbook of Greek Art 1959, for many years the standard introduction to the topic.

Born in London, she emigrated to the USA in 1905 and was naturalized in 1917.
