Ricketts, Charles (1866-1931)

English painter, illustrator, printer, and writer. In 1888 he started the Vale Press, publishing a series of reprints for which he designed the type founts known as Vale, Avon, and King's, and illustrated with numerous engravings. He was also a stage designer and wrote books on art.

Ricketts was also a collector of pictures, prints, and drawings. Best known among his own paintings is The Death of Don Juan (Tate Gallery, London). His books include The Prado and its Masterpieces, a study of Titian, and Unrecorded Histories 1933.
